Richard Brandes Obituary

            Richard “Dick” Calvin Brandes went to be with his lord on Monday, March 16, 2020.  Richard was born Monday, January 30, 1933 at Mack, Ohio, the son of Ralph Sr and Alma (Prager) Brandes.  He married Mary Lee Williams on June 20, 1953, to this union was born one son Steven Richard Brandes.  He graduated from Milan High School in 1953 and played basketball from 1950 to 1953.  He was awarded Eagle Scout along with his brothers Ralph Jr and Rodney in 1947. He served in Korea in 1954 and 1955.  He worked at Hillenbrands in Batesville for 10 years and retired from Seagrams in Lawrenceburg where he worked from 1966 to 1995.  He also worked many years part time at Brandes Pallet and Lumber Company.  He was a member of Pierceville United Methodist Church since 1969 and served as Sunday School superintendent, trustee and other positions.  His hobbies included: gardening; being outdoors; hunting; fishing; loved cutting grass; staying busy outside; and watching westerns. 

            Richard is survived by his wife Mary Lee of 66 years and son Steven both of Milan; sister Gerry Doane of Milan; brothers Rodney of Batesville and Ron of Milan; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph Jr and sister Juanita Taffe.

            A service celebrating his life will be held 12 Noon Friday, March 20, 2020 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastors Jack Bible and Charles Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in Craven Cemetery, with full military rites provided by the Milan American Legion Post #235.  Family and friends may gather to share and remember him from 10 AM - 12 Noon Friday, March 20 also at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given in honor of Richard to Pierceville United Methodist Church.  Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements, 707 S Main Street, Box 243, Milan, IN 47031, (812)654-2141.  You may go to www.lawscarrmoore.com to leave an online condolence message for the family.
