Eleanar Nichols Obituary

          Eleanar Maxine (Call) Nichols, Milan, woke up being held by Jesus on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, and was reunited with the love of her life at the age of 93. She was born in Milan on Tuesday, September 4, 1928, the daughter of Harry and Lauretta (Osier) Call. She married her high school sweetheart, Chester E. Nichols, on July 18, 1948 and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2004. She graduated from Milan High School in 1947, and she started working at the Whitlatch Clinic and Hospital until the hospital moved to Dearborn County, then she went to work for the Milan License Branch which later moved to Versailles. Eleanar was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, served as superintendent and church council member. She was secretary and a trustee member for the cemetery for 28 years. Eleanar was very involved in her community providing services for multiple organizations which included but not limited to Cub Scouts Den Mother, Republican Precinct Committeeman for Franklin 2, treasurer for Ripley County Republican Women’s Club and Central Committee, serving as treasure for Prattsburg Cemetery and International Yours Club, Women of the year-Ripley County Tribute to Women, and 1994 Indiana Roof Hotel, Indianapolis. She was a member of the Ripley County Saddle Club, Franklin County Home Economic Club, two bowling leagues and Rebecca Lodge. Eleanar, in her spare time enjoyed collecting menus, angels, and elephants. She loved to travel, take pictures of old barns, watch birds, especially hummingbirds, and watching Family Feud on TV. Her greatest passion in life was spending time with her family.

          Family members who will cherish her memories include her children Carol (Andy) Volz of Batesville, James “Jim” (Susie) Nichols of Batesville, and Jon (Jean) Nichols of Milan; brother Don (Joyce) Call of Milan; sister Doris Filisko of Michigan; grandchildren Brandy (Bill), Amber, Tara, Jamy (Jon), Kimberly (Brandon), Jessica (Andrew), and Jarrod; great-grandchildren Alex (Emma), Jacob, Tobias, Madison, Kaylee, and Thaddeus; many nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

          Eleanar was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lauretta, husband Chester, brother Jim Call, and brother-in-law Frank Filisko.

          Family and friends may gather in remembering Eleanar from 10am -12pm Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan. A service will be held at 12:30pm on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 7124 N State Road 101, Milan, IN 47031, with Pastor Susan Socha officiating. Burial will take place in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be given in honor of Eleanar to the Milan Fire Department or the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery Association.
